Preparation and Research

Research is an incredibly important aspect of Model United Nations, and it's a facet we're proud to promote at Surf City XVII. Every committee includes an extensive Topic Synopsis, which provides an overview of the topic and a case study along with questions and sources to help spark your continued research.

Registration and Costs

Fees are $40 per delegate, and $25 per school. They may be paid in cash or check. Checks should be made out to "HBHS MUN Boosters".  If you'd prefer to mail your payment ahead of time, please address it to 1905 Main Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92648 Attn: MUN. If not, you may pay the fees when you check in on the day of the conference.

Technology

Delegates are more than welcome to bring laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other electronics to be used constructively during committee.  Each committee will be configured with an online system to allow resolutions to be edited and reviewed in real time, and when they're finished the chairs can easily project them - there's no need for flash-drives or emails.  We're happy to be able to provide free wireless internet access to all delegates, courtesy of our school administration.  Connect to "HBUHSD-BYOD" and use the password "hbuhSD#education!". If you have difficulty, try to connect to hboilers.com.

Delegates who do not bring or have access to technology will not be penalized in anyway - points will not be reduced, and all Dais Chairs will keep a watchful eye to ensure delegates are not being left out of debate based on their electronics. Unprofessional or nonconstructive use of electronic devices will not be permitted in any way, shape, or form, and HBHSMUN reserves the right to confiscate any electronic devices being repeatedly used in a distracting manner, to be returned to the delegates Faculty Advisor at their earliest convenience. Diplomacy Points may also be docked for inappropriate use of technology.
